Martin Wishart Serves Up Scottish Treat for Glasgow in Singapore

Martin Wishart last night (JANUARY 25) joined other award-winning Scottish chefs to showcase Glasgow and the best of Scottish food and drink at a Burns Supper for some of the most influential business-people in Singapore.

The glittering Bravehearts Cuisine Charity Ball was held to mark the arrival of Glasgow: Scotland with style in Singapore as part of Clipper 07-08, The Round The World Yacht Race.

The event at Singapore’s luxury Pan Pacific Hotel was hosted by Glasgow City Marketing Bureau to highlight Glasgow’s credentials as a world-class destination for tourism and business – especially conferences.

Some of Singapore’s most powerful business figures were among the audience of 300 people who celebrated the birth of our national Bard by sampling the very best of Scottish food and drink.

They included the chief executive of the powerful Keppel Corporation, Lim Chee Onn, many former graduates of Glasgow’s universities now working in Singapore, and members of globalscots, the worldwide network of expatriate Scots.

Wishart, owner of the Michelin-starred Restaurant Martin Wishart in Edinburgh, was joined by fellow Scots chefs Raymond Capaldi of the Fenix Restaurant in Melbourne, and Joseph Martin, the executive chef at the Pan Pacific.

Wishart and Capaldi flew into Singapore for the Bravehearts promotion running from January 21-31 at the Pan Pacific to highlight the superb quality of Scottish cooking.

Bailie Liz Cameron, deputy chair of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, used the dinner to urge the audience to think about bringing a conference to Glasgow.

She highlighted the role played by the Glasgow Conference Ambassador Programme, a free one-stop service to support people thinking of bringing a conference to the city.

Bailie Cameron said: “Conferences and conventions have played a vital role in the city’s economic transformation. The Asia Pacific region is a rapidly expanding market for conferences, and Glasgow is keen to win more business from this part of the world.

“To those of you who know the city, I would ask that you keep Glasgow in mind when your company or professional body is looking for a venue for its next meeting.

“Graduates of Glasgow’s universities, such as many of you here tonight, move in important circles. You can continue being an important friend to Glasgow by helping bring a conference to the city.”

Afterwards, Martin Wishart said: “I was delighted to be able to support the Bravehearts Cuisine Charity Ball in association with Glasgow: Scotland with style.

“In front of almost 300 of Singapore’s most influential people, we were able to showcase the very best in Scottish cuisine and Glasgow’s credentials as a world class destination to visit and to do business.”
