Glasgow’s 2009 ‘Christmas Wrapped Up’ campaign promotes the city’s unrivalled shopping scene, and events and attractions over the festive period.
Glasgow City Marketing Bureau (GCMB) has joined forces with the city’s major retailers on the style mile: Buchanan Galleries, St Enoch Centre, John Lewis, Frasers, Princes Square, Debenhams and Marks & Spencer, along with Glasgow Chamber of Commerce and Glasgow City Council for Christmas 2009.
Last year, Glasgow was named as the UK’s top Christmas shopping destination outside London, an accolade that can only be strengthened this year with the newly-crowned style mile: inspirational shopping, atmospheric cafes, fine restaurants and cool night spots all within a compact square mile in the heart of the Glasgow.
Advertising agency, 999, has worked with GCMB to develop the ‘Christmas Wrapped Up’ creative, building on last year’s campaign to reflect this year’s partnership with the style mile.
As part of the campaign, Maguire Advertising has developed a set of 48-sheet posters, based on three creative concepts, which are being displayed at Edinburgh Waverley, Perth, Aberdeen and Dundee train stations.
Meanwhile, Stripe Communications, the strategic PR and communications consultancy, has been appointed to devise and implement a PR strategy for ‘Christmas Wrapped Up’.
Scott Taylor, Chief Executive of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: “The range of fantastic shopping and a host of exciting events are set to make for a spectacular festive season in Glasgow this year, and our 2009 campaign reflects that.
“Covering advertising, PR and digital media, it is an integrated and innovative campaign which has the support of a host of private and public sector partners. We're really excited about making the most of the 'Christmas Wrapped Up' message to get across the sense of magic, vibrancy and fun that Glasgow offers at this time of year."
Lesley Ballantyne, Chair of the style mile, added: “This Christmas, the style mile is pulling out all the stops to create a truly magical atmosphere for shoppers in Glasgow and the Christmas Wrapped Up campaign is really helping us to maximise our message.
“With a great choice of one-off shops, designer brands, well known high street names and new store openings, the city has unbeatable choice and a great atmosphere this Christmas. There are also dozens of festive events and shows to choose from as well as vibrant cafes, bars and restaurants - all in a convenient central hub. Glasgow really has got a fun-filled Christmas all wrapped up.”
Richard Bissland, Founding Director of 999, added: “999 has been delighted to work once again on this high profile campaign with the GCMB team and we wish the city of Glasgow a buoyant Christmas and an enriching New Year.”
Nick Maguire, Managing Director of Maguire Advertising, said: “For ‘Christmas Wrapped Up’, we have devised a series of three creative treatments highlighting why Glasgow is the recognised shopping capital of Scotland: ‘Break With Tradition’ features cutting-edge jewellery from Glasgow’s Che Camile, juxtaposed with conventional woolly socks; ‘Choo Choo to Hamleys’ announced the opening of the famous toy store in Glasgow; and ‘Streets Ahead’ shows the style mile’s Buchanan Street in all its Christmas glory.”
Juliet Simpson, Stripe Managing Director, commented: “There’s so much going on in Glasgow in the run up to Christmas, making this a fantastic campaign to be involved in. Our aim is to spread the word about the city’s super league shopping status and get the ‘Christmas Wrapped Up’ messages out there through a targeted PR campaign, with a specific focus on digital media.”
