Glasgow taxi drivers are kitted out as city ambassadors

As the first point of contact for visitors to Glasgow, the city’s taxi drivers can offer a wealth of invaluable knowledge to those looking to experience Glasgow’s hot spots.

As part of its ongoing partnership with Glasgow Taxis, and to support their role as destination ambassadors, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau has provided funding towards special uniforms for all its drivers. The new gear includes shirts, jackets and sweatshirts branded with the Glasgow: Scotland with style logo.

Scott Taylor, Chief Executive, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: “There’s a great natural synergy between what we do to promote the city, and what cab drivers across Glasgow are doing literally every day as they share their expertise on the city’s attractions with the thousands of visitors bringing money into the local economy all year round.

“First and last impressions of the city are delivered to visitors by our friendly taxi drivers, who we prize as Glasgow’s finest. They are an enviable asset to the city – one which we have always recognised and are extremely proud to support.”

Custodian of the Glasgow: Scotland with style brand, GCMB has a close working relationship with Glasgow Taxis – Scotland’s largest taxi firm.

Established in 1995 after a merger of three companies, Glasgow Taxis is now the fourth largest taxi firm in the UK, employing over 2,000 drivers, with 970 vehicles all fully-equipped to accommodate wheelchairs.

Stephen Flynn, Vice Chairman, Glasgow Taxis, added: “The drivers are delighted with the new uniforms, which have given them a real sense of pride and professionalism.

“We’re very grateful to Glasgow City Marketing Bureau for its continued support, and I’m confident it will help to boost our business all the way to the 2014 Commonwealth Games, and beyond.”

Glasgow Taxis is working with Glasgow City Council to ensure Christmas revellers stay safe this festive period. The “Nite Zone” offers marshalled ranks on Friday and Saturday nights between 10pm and 5am at Gordon Street, Central Station and Sauchiehall Street.
