Icons in a Gilded Frame - The Scottish Style Awards 2006

Vic Galloway and Shantha Roberts
Lights, cameras, action. . .  The SCOTTISH STYLE AWARDS 2006 will take place on the evening of Friday 27th October in the truly splendid surroundings of Kelvingrove, Glasgow’s much loved and newly restored museum and art gallery.

Think red carpet, high heels, and fabulous frocks. Think hot celebrities and cool artists. Think flowing champagne, a fabulous runway fashion show, gala dinner and glamorous awards ceremony honouring the individuals, establishments and enterprises whose stylish endeavours enrich our lives.

Now in their second year, the SCOTTISH STYLE AWARDS – sponsored by Glasgow: Scotland with style, Moët & Chandon and Xfm Scotland – are already established as Scotland’s foremost celebration of all that’s inspirational and outstanding across our creative industries.

Judged by a panel of seven outstanding opinion-formers, award categories range from hospitality to music and from retailing to fashion design, with special awards for our contemporary style icons: Scotland’s Most Stylish Male and Scotland’s Most Stylish Female.

Nominees for the Scottish Fashion Designer of the Year title – won last year by Jonathan Saunders – will be featured in a spectacular runway show. The awards ceremony will also include live music performances and an award for Scotland’s Most Stylish Band or Musician.

In hospitality, accolades for the most stylish hotel, bar, and restaurant are complemented, this year, by a new category: Scotland’s Most Stylish Venue, in which concert halls, events spaces and private members clubs are eligible. There are also awards for Scotland’s most stylish high street and designer retailers.

The Scottish Tastemaker of the Year category acknowledges creative endeavours which have defined or redefined our understanding of style.

The ceremony culminates in the presentation of a special award for Outstanding Contribution to Scottish Style – as won last year by Timorous Beasties, the Glasgow-based design duo (Alistair McAuley and Paul Simmons) who have achieved truly global recognition.

Hosts for the evening will be VIC GALLOWAY and fellow BBC music presenter, SHANTHA ROBERTS.

QUOTES

Mary McGowne, founder of the Scottish Style Awards, said, “Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, the Scottish Style Awards 2006 promises to be the hottest red-carpet celebration in the social calendar.  It will be the ultimate fusion of highbrow, avant-garde and rock ‘n’ roll!

I am delighted to be staging the event once again in Glasgow and continuing the partnership with main sponsors Glasgow: Scotland with style and Moët & Chandon.  I am also pleased to welcome Xfm Scotland on board this year as an official media partner.  It is a particular thrill, and entirely appropriate, that the dazzling breadth of contemporary Scottish talent working both at home and across the globe will be honoured on the night in one of the most truly fabulous venues of all, Kelvingrove.”

Councillor Alex Mosson, Chairman of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said, “Glasgow: Scotland with style is delighted to be supporting the Scottish Style Awards once again this year.  Glasgow is the natural home for such a stylish and prestigious event and Kelvingrove will add that extra bit of sparkle to what, I am sure, will be another fantastic evening.”

Caroline Warner, UK Brand Director, Moët & Chandon, said,  “Moët & Chandon is delighted once again to be supporting the fabulous Scottish Style Awards, particularly given this year’s spectacular and historic venue.  We are very excited at the prospect of showing off our gorgeous new Moët clothes at such a stylish occasion, and ensuring the Awards is the hottest ticket of the year in Scotland.”

Stuart Duncan, Marketing and Operations Controller, Xfm Scotland said  “The Scottish Style Awards represent all that is stylish, sexy and sassy in Scotland and Xfm is the only possible soundtrack.  Xfm is looking forward to supporting the Scottish Style Awards in this it's second year and creating a strong relationship between the two. It is important to support the success of Scots across the world as well as at home and the Scottish Style Awards does this to stunning effect, as the calibre of support bears testament to”.
