Glasgow City Marketing Bureau and Hyper Exhibitions team up to deliver extra pre-christmas sparkle

Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, Glasgow City Council and Hyper Exhibitions have teamed up to bring an ultra glamorous exhibition to Glasgow that will attract visitors to the city in the run up to Christmas.

Exquisite Jewels – the Art of Carnet by Michelle Ong’ will be at the Burrell Collection from 28 October until 10 December.

The exhibition is the first ever of work by Hong Kong based, Michelle Ong, whose signature high-impact pieces incorporating exceptional gem stones, have been worn by a host of celebrities including Kate Winslet, Teri Hatcher and Mischa Barton.

The exhibition will comprise 100 pieces created by Ong, including four that she designed specially for the hit movie The Da Vinci Code.

Ong, who designs for her own company, Carnet, has been called “one of the greatest designers of our time” by international jewellery critic Ryo Yamaguchi, and the exhibition presents both new creations and loans from her illustrious clientele.

Glasgow was chosen for the exhibition for a number of reasons, which Hyper Exhibitions managing director, Wendy Rosenthal, explains, “Exquisite Jewels will premiere in Glasgow because we felt the city offered a unique dimension to the exhibition.  It has a growing reputation for both style and major events, and the Burrell Collection is a great fit with Michelle’s designs.

“We’ve also had great support from Glasgow City Marketing Bureau and look forward to bringing other Hyper events and exhibitions to the city.”

Glasgow City Marketing Bureau chairman, Alex Mosson, commented, “This is a fantastic coup for Glasgow and makes the city that much more attractive as a place to shop in the run up to Christmas.  The exhibition is one of a number of stylish happenings in the city over the autumn/winter period, all of which will help to enhance the Glasgow: Scotland with style campaign.”

Situated in Pollok Park, the Burrell Collection houses 8,000 objets d’arte that were once in the personal collection of Glasgow shipping magnate, Sir William Burrell (1861 – 1958).  Highlights include paintings by Degas and Cezanne, important stained glass and tapestries, and a fine collection of Chinese porcelain.
