From today (Friday, June 6), residents and visitors alike passing through the city’s George Square will be treated to a visually stunning display as it becomes a giant, open-air gallery showcasing twenty-four of Glasgow’s most iconic buildings and attractions.

Glasgow City Marketing Bureau (GCMB) has worked closely with Glasgow Museums and other leading city attractions to produce the twelve bespoke, double-sided banners featuring:

  • Architecture & the Built Environment – Holmwood House, The Cloisters – The University of Glasgow, Glasgow City Chambers, Glasgow Cathedral and Doulton Fountain at the People’s Palace.

  • Charles Rennie Mackintosh – House for an Art Lover, The Lighthouse, The Glasgow School of Art, The Mackintosh House at the Hunterian Art Gallery, and Queens Cross Church.

  • Galleries & Museums – The Burrell Collection, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Gallery of Modern Art, The Hunterian Museum, St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art, Museum of Transport and Pollok House.

  • Vistor Attractions – The Tall Ship, Scottish Football Museum – Hampden Park, Glasgow Science Centre and The Mitchell Library.

Bailie Liz Cameron, Vice-Chair of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, unveiled the new artwork today in George Square - with a little help from the team at City Sightseeing Glasgow

Commenting on the new commission, Bailie Cameron said:

“These amazing, stylish images give people a glimpse of the richness and variety of Glasgow’s major attractions, from the fabulous Art Nouveau buildings of Charles Rennie Mackintosh to the magnificent Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum which is the 14th most visited museum in the world.

“The city’s collections are of both national and international significance and a great asset for Scotland.  And the fact that many of the venues are free to visit means they are accessible to visitors and locals alike.”
