| Tennent’s Lager - with support from Glasgow City Marketing Bureau - has launched the world’s first iTour, a free MP3 based travel guide that promotes Glasgow as the capital of contemporary music in Europe. It is a new concept, which is already being described as “the most exciting breakthrough in internet marketing since the internet itself”, and Tennent’s has created the first downloadable file with the aim of capitalising on the current global interest in Glasgow bands such as Franz Ferdinand and Snow Patrol. Glasgow: Sounds of a Music Capital uses the latest technology to create a guided walk round the city which can be listened to on i-pods and other MP3 players, or burned on to CD. With map in hand, listeners will be talked round the city by music journalist and DJ Jim Gellatly, and the personal audio tour will take visitors to some of the city’s best venues, the creative hotspots and some great hidden gems while also providing a taste of the new music coming out of Glasgow’s thriving scene. Tennent’s PR manager Rob Bruce said: “We are really excited about this iTour. To me it is exactly what the internet is for, using technology to create a world first which will reach a global audience. By promoting the music scene in Glasgow we will encourage more visitors to the city and in turn Scotland. “As Scotland’s biggest music fan and investor in the country’s music scene, this felt exactly right for us, allowing us to create something new while giving something back. Scott Taylor, Chief Executive of the new Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, added: “Tennent's came to us with this idea and we thought it was brilliant. “The music scene in Glasgow is the best in Britain and this iTour describes it by those best placed to know - music enthusiasts, music promoters and the bands themselves. It's a vivid portrayal of a stylish, vibrant and creative city and I am sure it will persuade more people to visit." Tennent’s Lager commissioned the first iTour as part of the brand’s broader music activity, which includes T in the Park, triptych and T-Break. It has been developed as a ‘copy left’ concept which means that the material is not only free, but people are encouraged to share the file with as many other people as possible.
