Glasgow Launches Tourism Strategy for the Next Decade
Glasgow has launched its ambitious plans for a decade-long development of its tourist industry to continue its success as a world-class city and destination, and bring £1billion to its economy every year.
Glasgow’s Tourism Strategy sets out a clear direction for the city’s tourism industry that will bring an expected four million visitors a year to Glasgow by 2016. With global tourism expected to grow at 4% a year, this would mean the sector would generate £1 billion in annual revenue for the city.
Major hotel developments in Glasgow: Scotland with style
There are 2,400 new hotel rooms planned for Glasgow over the next four years to meet demand from the city’s booming conference, events and leisure travel markets. Among the new hotels will be the five-star, 88 bedroom Blythwood Square which is due to open in March 2008 and the Bothwell Plaza, set to be the biggest hotel development in Scotland, due for completion in 2010.

The news was released by Glasgow City Marketing Bureau (GCMB) as it unveiled a new advertising creative highlighting the increasing range of hotel accommodation available, and how the city is easier to get to than ever before as new flight routes open up.
Europe's Only City Centre Seaplane Service Takes off from Glasgow
Glasgow joined the likes of Sydney, Seattle and Vancouver this month (August 07) with the launch of a seaplane service operating from the heart of the city centre.
Tourists are now able to fly to Oban in Scotland’s spectacular West Highlands in approximately 24 minutes – as opposed to two and a half hours by car.
The service – the only regular seaplane flights operating from the centre of a European city – is a major new attraction for visitors to Glasgow, allowing them to comfortably enjoy a return day trip into the Highlands.
Glasgow Harbour
The biggest regeneration project on the Clyde is Glasgow Harbour, a £1 billion scheme to transform 130 acres of land into a stylish residential, leisure and work complex which will include the new £50 million Riverside Museum.
