The work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, architectural genius and Glaswegian icon, is explored in a new way at a fascinating exhibition opening next month at Scotland Street School Museum in Glasgow.
Mackintosh in Miniature: Doll’s House Delights opens on 15 June, and features two meticulously detailed doll’s houses conjured up from the makers’ imagination and their research into the work, life and times of Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
The exhibition focuses on two extraordinary gifts to Glasgow’s civic collection: a Mackintosh house with richly furnished and decorated interiors from 6 Florentine Terrace, Glasgow; The Hill House, Helensburgh, and 78 Derngate, Northampton created by Margaret and Michael Hartley; and a recreation of Mackintosh’s Ladies’ Luncheon Room for Miss Catherine Cranston’s Ingram Street Tearooms, made by the North Glasgow Dolls House and Teddy Bear Club.
There will be an extensive programme of events running alongside the exhibition, including a talk from curator Alison Brown on 16 June, a workshop showing how to transform a shoebox into a miniature home on 24 June as well as a variety of doll’s house workshops for all ages.
